Hyderabad Horror: Man Allegedly Sets Wife on Fire Before Children, Pushes Daughter Into Flames
A Hyderabad man allegedly set his wife on fire in front of their children and pushed their daughter into the flames when she tried to save her mother. The woman died of burn injuries, while the child survived. Police have launched a manhunt as the accused remains absconding.
According to police, the incident took place in the Nallakunta area of the city. The accused, identified as Venkatesh, is alleged to have attacked his wife, Triveni, following frequent disputes rooted in his suspicions about her. Investigators said the couple had been arguing regularly, with Venkatesh reportedly subjecting Triveni to repeated harassment.
On the day of the crime, Venkatesh allegedly assaulted Triveni inside their home in the presence of their children. He then poured petrol on her and set her on fire. When their daughter attempted to rescue her mother, police said Venkatesh pushed the child into the flames as well before fleeing the house.
Neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing desperate screams from the home. By the time they arrived, Triveni had succumbed to severe burn injuries. Their daughter, who sustained minor injuries, was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. The couple’s son was also present during the incident.
Preliminary information suggests that Venkatesh and Triveni had a love marriage and were parents to two children. Due to alleged continuous abuse, Triveni had recently left the matrimonial home and stayed with her parents. She reportedly returned after Venkatesh assured her that he would change, shortly before the fatal incident occurred.
Police have registered a case and launched an extensive search operation to trace Venkatesh, who remains absconding. Officials said efforts are underway to gather further evidence and record statements from witnesses and family members.
The brutal killing has sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood, with residents expressing anger and disbelief. The incident has once again highlighted the grave consequences of domestic violence and the urgent need for stronger intervention mechanisms to protect vulnerable individuals, particularly women and children, within family settings.
